Pray The Gay Away - Sketch Comedy!

Honestly, we don't know much about the origins of this sketch comedy video shot at The Groundlings theatre. We found it on actor Danny Farrell's vimeo page. But, it is so hilarious, we couldn't not post it. A mother drops her son off at camp to help him overcome his "gay phase." But, camp turns out to be a little more fun than her son ever could have imagined. Any watch the sketch...it's lots of fun.

Stand Up Comedian Nik Dodani on Being Gay, Indian, and Disappointing His Family

You might have seen gay stand up comedian Nik Dodani on tv shows The Comeback and Selfie. Or maybe you have seen his commercial for Wendy's where he plays The Memer responding to a spicy chicken sandwich. Regardless, he is wonderfully charming and vulnerable on stage discussing being gay and disappointing his Indian family who hopes he will find some nice Indian lesbian to marry so they can be each other's beards. Also, he hilariously comes up with the straight male equivalent of the gay classification system of Bears, Twinks, Otters, etc...

Coming soon, Nik Dodani is appearing in the movie The Waiting with James Caan in which a couple of guys try to trick their neighbor into thinking a house is haunted.

If you like Nik's stand up, be sure to follow him on Twitter!

Monday Morning Dance Party: Johnny McGovern "Sexy Nerd"

Since June is Gay Pride Month, we are continuing with our sizzling gay music video theme! Check out Johnny McGovern's "Sexy Nerd" video from a few years back! Nerds never looked so mouth watering good. Life would be much easier if we could just put geeky glasses on our local jocks and turn them into hot, video game loving menz who have no idea how sexy they are. Sigh.

Must Watch: Stray (2015) Short Film

Filmmaker Tyler Glodt and writer Lewaa Nasserdeen bring us the hilarious twenty-four minute long short film Stray. What's it about? So glad you asked. It's set in a parallel universe where the sexual bias favors homosexuals. Eric, a struggling heterosexual, submits himself into gay conversion therapy in hopes of curing his deviant lifestyle and fitting in with societal norms.

I know, I know. It seems like this film could go really bad, really fast. But, it doesn't. It's terrifically wonderful and deadpan. The acting is sincere and natural. It's a total relief from the campy silliness of films that have come before. Stray will make you laugh out loud without a single over the top, "hey look how gay and funny I am" performance. The actors even stay in character while delivering rehab/recovery lines like, "I'm out of scrubs, I can almost do the splits, and I'm starting to emotionally shut down."

Anyway, rather than me going on and on, watch it for yourself. It's well worth your time.

Normal Gays: An Interview w/ Sketch Comedy Artist Tommy Do

About six months ago, I happened upon the hilarious gay themed sketch comedy video series Normal Gays and was pretty much hooked instantly. The premise of the internet based show is simple - gay guys having completely normal conversations while something wonderfully absurd is going on around them. Sometimes the craziness is obvious from start to finish and the characters just ignore it as if it is common place, sometimes it casually reveals itself as the sketch unfolds. Regardless, it's pretty much always good for a laugh. The scene that got me hooked featured two guys doing sit ups in their apartment complex gym. Every time they would come up, they would blow a kiss or lovingly crinkle their nose. I won't even spoil the surprise by telling you what was really going on in this scene. But, I strongly suggest you watch the first video below!
Click to enlarge. It's worth it!

Normal Gays is the brainchild of professional figure skater/comedian Tommy Do, which he says "is not a joke and probably the gayest thing you'll hear all day." Tommy studies both improv and sketch at the Uprights Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York. Along with The Groundlings and Second City, UCB has developed some of the best writers and comedians currently working on shows such as Saturday Night Live, VEEP, and Parks and Recreation. According to Do, "UCB has also developed some not so talented writers who are currently working as figure skaters."  All kidding aside, Tommy contributes to the UCB monthly sketch show, The Livia Scott Sketch Program as well as the first satirical women's magazine, Reductress. Tommy is also the first person whose publicity photo made me splurt diet soda on my computer monitor.

We reached out to Tommy Do via the internet and begged him to an interview with us. Despite currently touring for his gig as a figure skater, Tommy agreed to sit down and answer a few of our highly dubious questions.

If you want to explore more Normal Gays videos on your own, we suggest their Website or YouTube page! Also, follow Tommy Do on Facebook!

Q:  Tommy, I have watched every single episode of Normal Gays numerous times and there is something I can't help but wonder. Do you always have 5 o'clock shadow?
Tommy: Haha. Unfortunately, yes. I try my best to look presentable, especially on camera, but if there's one thing I've learned from filming Normal Gays is that you can't fuck with HD. Also, I'm 100% Vietnamese and don't know anyone else in my gene pool that has to shave as often as I do.

Q: Did you already own a Sailor Moon costume, or did you buy it
specifically for the show?
Tommy: I made the sailor moon costume out of clothes my mother wears to work. My mother is Sailor
Moon.

Q:  Can you walk us through the production process? Are episodes scripted? Or does everyone get to improvise?
Tommy: When we shoot we have a very limited time to get all the footage, so the episodes are very scripted. We improvise sometimes to make the dialogue sound more natural, but the shooting day is very much produced. This isn't to say we don't like to have fun on set. I'm not Hitler.

Q: One thing I adore about the show is how much nonsense is going on in the background. How much of that is planned vs. how much is just a happy accident?
Tommy: I would say about 90% percent of the background action is planned, and 10% of it is a boy in his underwear wanting to get more YouTube face time.

Q: I noticed a bottle of Take It Bitch lube in the background of a scene. That lube is normally used for extra, extra large appendages! I suppose you are going to try to pretend that wasn't your house!
Tommy: Haha. My amazing friend Brett Casiraghi (who appears in that episode) graciously let us use his beautiful pied-à-terre. The 'Take It Bitch' lube is one of the many artifacts he has on display in his living room.

Q:  How liberating was it to be the first gay man to actually shit glitter?
Tommy: Wait, you don't shit glitter?

Q:  Is it difficult to talk your friends into participating in the show?
Tommy: NO! I ALWAYS GET WHAT I WANT! jkjkjkjkjkjkjk. I'm actually very lucky to have awesome friends who help me produce the show and make it super funny. I'm also very lucky to have awesome friends who will work for free food and attention.

Q: How many of the sketches are based on true events?
Tommy: A lot of the dialogue is taken out of real conversations I've had or my friends have had. The goal of Normal Gays is to show viewers that everyone is normal and also gay.

Q: Normal Gays gets wonderfully irreverent. Is there any subject matter that you would feel is too taboo for the show?
Tommy: Rape.

Q:  Can we expect a Season 3?!
Tommy: You can expect a Season 300! We're just going to keep going forever like the NOW CDs!
We have so much fun making them, so I think as long as it's a good time, we'll keep producing them. We're also hoping to get turned into a tv show (shocking) so if you're, like, a network big wig then, like, call me. duh.

Must Watch: "Trannysnatchers" Cult Movie Finally Gets a Streaming Release!

Trannysnatchers is the most wonderfully fucked up, magically inappropriate gay horror comedy ever made. I am serious. This shit is so over the top bat shit crazy that you won't stop smiling and saying "what the fuck am I watching" out loud. If you like bizarre B movies, you kinda have to watch this. Actually, I suggest gathering a group of like minded friends, having a few cocktails, and making an event of it.

So, from what I can gather by the limited info about the movie online, Trannysnatchers was filmed and released in the Portland, OR area in 2011/2012 by a group of performers/musicians whose experience prior to undertaking a full length movie included making home made short films and producing conceptual dance performances at local theatres. One of the film's producer/directors Caedmonster explained to entertainment magazine Willamette Week, "We kept saying, throughout the process of making this movie, that it was basically a valentine to gay kids in Kansas who feel alone and don’t think there’s anybody that’s like them or thinks like them."

Here's the Trannysnatchers official synopsis:

Outside a small, typical American town, an elusive cult of demon worshiping gender queer assassins live in infamy, awaiting the day their savior will return to Earth & end the Gender Binary. The Trannysnatchers live on a compound beyond the fringe of society and earn their living the hard way: putting an end to those who trample on the weak and oppressed. But the youngest of the group, Ginger, has grown anxious about her life, having been selected as the chosen one who will bring about the destruction of gender. When she decides to run away, she unknowingly sets into motion the very fate she is trying to escape...
The Trannysnatchers lure their victims in an variety of hysterical manners, let's just say at one point a puppet show is involved. There is also a jaw dropping home sex change operation using household utensils and a hacksaw that is one of the craziest scenes I have ever seen in a movie. The post sex change shenanigans take an already insane scene and send it even further into crazy town. It's really not to be missed. The movie is just full of wonderful atrocities: blow up doll suits, witch doctors and oracles, creepy babies, and a chainsaw wielding tranny in a jack-o-lantern mask. And that is just a tiny fraction of what makes this film so great.

Recently, the Trannysnatchers gang finally placed the movie on Vimeo On Demand for the whole world to enjoy. Click the link below to go to the site. But, while talking to Caedmonster about the movie, he told us the first 100 or so people can use the discount code happyhalloween to rent the movie for $2 instead of the already cheap price of $4.

Enjoy! And don't say we didn't warn you!

Tosh.O Helps Gay Couple Stick It To A Bigoted East Texas Restaurant

Whether you love or hate Daniel Tosh, you gotta give him props for sticking up for the LGBT community every chance he gets. So, when gay couple Colin and Kelly were asked to never return to East Texas restaurant Big Earl's after being told "we don't serve fags," the Tosh.O staff sprung into action. Big Earl's also has a sign on the door that says "Where Men Act Like Men, Women Act Like Ladies." After interviewing the couple for a bit, Tosh.O suggested opening a competing restaurant next door to Big Earl's called Dallas Buyers Club & Grill. I am not sure if they really put a sign up across the street from Big Earl's or not, but in the skit, they did lampoon Earl pretty good with a bunch of photos of Earl's head superimposed on a naked bodies. Either way, the point was made pretty well. If you are going to be a bigoted jerk in this modern era, be prepared to pay the price.

LGBT Artists Margaret Cho, KD Lang, Right Said Fred, & Kids in the Hall Lend Their Voices to 2776 Benefit Album!

From the evil genius minds of Rob Kutner (CONAN, The Daily Show) and the Levinson Brothers (Tonight Show, Comedy Central), comes the 2776 comedy/music benefit album. 2776 is a charity album supporting OneKid OneWorld. OneKid OneWorld provides a foundation for education in impoverished communities throughout Kenya and El Salvador by giving children from primary school through secondary school the opportunity for a better and brighter future.

All told, the album features 28 amazingly hilarious tracks featuring LGBT legends Margaret Cho, KD Lang, Right Said Fred, and most of the cast from Kids in the Hall! In most of the tracks, comedians team up with musicians to create amusing half skit, half song hybrids. For example, in track 9, "Journey to Anywhen," Right Said Fred takes comedian/rapper Reggie Watts on a trip back in time to 1991 where they meet a free-styling Mayim Bialik.

In the track "Mt. Rushmore," Margaret Cho is the first queer, Asian-American President and is getting her effigy carved into Mt. Rushmore, which totally irks the other Presidents, portrayed by comedy legends Dick Cavett, Dick Gregory, Joe Franklin & Al Jaffee. Later, KD Lang and 3/5 of Kids in the Hall team up with Alex Trebek, Will Arnett, Samantha Bee and more to sing the track "Canada: Up On Top Again!"

The album is officially released on July 4th! On June 24th, they will release a full stream over at their Soundcloud page. You should follow their Facebook page, too, just to make sure you don't miss anything!

Watch Dave Foley in Aimee Mann's video for the track "I'm Cured!"

Here's a more complete list of all the bands and celebrities on the record:
Ed Helms, Yo La Tengo, Aimee Mann, Andrew W.K., Eugene Mirman, The Rebirth Brass Band, Aubrey Plaza, Patton Oswalt, Ira Glass, Maria Bamford, Martha Plimpton, Ashanti, Andy Richter, The Sklar Brothers, Horatio Sanz, 3/5ths of the Kids In The Hall, Paul F.
