Must Watch: Cakes Da Killa "No Homo" Documentary

Recording artist and raunchy rapper Cakes Da Killa is a 24-year-old with three critically-acclaimed mixtapes to his name. His latest release Hunger Pangs solidified him as “one of hip hop’s most exciting voices,” according to The Needle Drop and a ferocious rapper who “sounds like he will absolutely slap your face off” in the words of Stereogum. No small feat, as this intensity has also garnered him praise from the likes of Vice, MTV and The Fader. Cakes Da Killa’s unique sound is a mix of various musical influences, cinema and underground experiences. Praised for both his lyrical content and flow, which has earned him comparisons to Lil Kim and Foxy Brown, Cakes’ international following has brought him all around Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, all the while shattering the preconceived notions of what it takes to be a respected lyricist. (Rightly) bragging that he can, “spit that shit to make a homophobe a hypocrite,” he continues to prove the statement true with each new release he drops.

You must watch filmmaker Ja'Tovia Gary's 13 minute documentary on Cakes Da Killa, born Rashard Bradshaw. Cakes is alarmingly honest about his life. Especially poignant is the section on how being a sarcastic, fun loving class clown saved him from being bullied in High School, but as an adult, he struggles to turn the sarcasm off, let down his guard, and allow people into his life. It's really wonderful.

After watching, if you want to learn more about Cakes Da Killa, check out his Facebook, Soundcloud, YouTube, and Website.

Graphic Novel Preview: Pardners by Dale Lazarov and Bo Revel

Veteran writer Dale Lazarov is the master at conveying emotion and meaningful intimacy without ever using a single word of dialog. His gay erotic comics go well beyond the normal realm of "hey here's two hunky guys having sex" bringing the reader a glimpse into the world of true romance, allowing us to fall in love with the characters as they are falling in love with each other.

If you missed it, we did an interview with Dale Lazarov back in July, 2014 around the time that his comic Fast Friends was released. Dale is well known for his numerous erotic graphic novel series including Good Sports, Nightlife, Manly, Sticky, Bulldogs, and Greek Love. He has teamed with a cadre of amazing artists such as Steve MacIsaac, Bastian Jonsson, Yann Duminil, Amy Colburn, Dominic Cordoba, Chas Hunter, Si Arden, and lots more!

German publishing house Bruno Gmünder has just released Dale's graphic novel Pardners in hard back format. This time around, Lazarov teams up with illustrator Bo Revel in a 64 page tale of a chance meeting that leads to something more. Revel's throw back artistic style makes this book a lot of fun. But don't just take my word for it, legendary erotic comic pioneer Howard Cruse gives Pardners ridiculously high praise, “Illustrator Bo Revel renders Dale Lazarov’s wordless erotic fantasies with lines laid down so sensually you suspect they’re going to bed with each other between panels.”
Here's the official description:
A rakish Nashville country music stud goes shopping for a spectacular steel guitar with his entourage. In the guitar store, the dealer daddy also catches his eye. Turns out the guitar dealer is looking to buy what the country star is selling in his skin-tight jeans... Nu-Country and Ol’ Country meet and more than make nice in Pardners!
Obviously, this description doesn't really do the comic justice. Pardners as a story is way more emotionally mature and the plot line is thankfully much more sophisticated. But, if you like the preview art below, you really should grab a copy and read it for yourself. In the US, the best place to purchase is Amazon.
